LPG PRODUCTION: The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is exploring
possibilities to double liquid gas production within the next six to
nine months to enter the local retail gas market.
Currently, we are producing 10 per cent of the local requirement,
which is being sold to Laugfs Gas company at a discount, Minister of
Petroleum and Petroleum Resources A.H.M Fowzie told the Daily News.
To increase LP gas production from 10 per cent to 20 per cent they
would expand existing oil refineries and also improve the current
infrastructure facilities in its refineries Minister Fowzie said.
The CPC will also import LP gas for the local retail market and will
become the third player in the LP gas retail market apart from Shell Gas
and Laugfs, he said.
To facilitate this business, the CPC is planning to lease out or buy
previous player Mundo Gas company's gas cylinders and its equipment for
this purpose, he said.
