CRICKET: Veteran Sanath Jayasuriya’s brilliant all round performance
was the feature in Sri Lanka’s three nil clean sweep over Bangladesh in
the three match one day international series concluded recently.
Jayasuriya became only the third Sri Lankan bowler to capture three
hundred wickets after Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas and overall
the ninth bowler to perform this feat in one day internationals.
Jayasuriya who is the most capped player in the one day game of
course has more than 12,000 runs to his credit and has held on to over
one hundred catches.
He won the man of the series award largely due to his bowling efforts
where he picked up a total of nine wickets from the three matches.
Among the seamers Dilhara Fernando was outstanding with six wickets
including a career best four wicket haul in the first one day
international at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium which won him the man of
the match award.
The entire series turned out to be a low scoring contest with only
three half centuries been scored with Jehan Mubarak’s career best knock
of 72 as the best effort.
