Tilak Karunaratne quits all UNP posts

COLOMBO: Tilak Karunaratne yesterday resigned from all posts he held in the UNP, including the post of Treasurer.

Karunaratne said the UNP leader’s demeaning statement on the Thoppigala victory and his description of the Sangha as a Dushseela Samagama, the UNP-SLFP-M pact and the new trends in the UNP were among the reasons for his resignation.

The letter of resignation was sent last afternoon. He will quit all committee posts in the party, but will continue to be an ordinary member.
