Former Headquarters Inspector remanded

KANDY: Former Headquarters Inspector of Matale Police Sisira Kumara Jayasekera was remanded till August 3 by High Court Judge, Kandy Nalin Perera when he was arrested on warrants issued by court and produced in court on Wednesday by a special police team.

State Counsel Shaminda Wickrema informed court that Jayasekera is an accused in three cases of abductions and wrongful confinements alleged to have taken place during 1989 and 1990. In the early stages of the cases, he had appeared in court.

The State Counsel also informed court that in the latter stages of the cases, the accused had failed to appear in court on several occasions and warrants were issued for the accused’s arrest.
