Workshops on teaching commerce
COLOMBO: The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka in
collaboration with the Education Department organised a workshop on the
theme ‘To improve the teaching of commerce in schools of the Western
Province’.
The workshop which catered to Education Directors, Provincial
Directors, Zonal Directors, teachers, Principals, Vice Principals and
Sectional Heads of Commerce of schools in the Colombo district was held
at the Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala Auditorium at the AAT Centre, Colombo.
Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray, the chief guest who
appreciated the steps taken by the AAT as an education institute to
improve the quality of commerce teaching and also requested them to
organise similar workshops in other areas.
Hilary E. Silva, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce,
University of Sri Jayewardenapura spoke on ‘The Future of Commerce
Education’ and M. Thilakasiri, Senior Consultant and Director, School of
Post Graduate Studies (SLIDA) spoke on ‘Management of Schools and
Leadership’ at this workshop.
Action has been initiated by the AATSL to conduct workshops in the
Gampaha and Kalutara districts.
