Treasury directed to allocate Rs. 100m for Kandy roads

KANDY: President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday directed the Treasury
to allocate Rs. 100 million to the Central Provincial Council with
immediate effect to facilitate the development of roads managed by the
Council.
He issued this directive at the Kandy District Development Committee
meeting at the President’s House, Kandy. At this meeting, the President
also directed the Road Development Authority to build four flyovers
across Kandy-Peradeniya rail road to ease the present traffic congestion
on the Peradeniya Road.
He said construction work on the flyovers should commence within the
next two weeks.
He said a new road should also be built to link Peradeniya road with
William Gopallawa Mawatha and added that he would review the progress of
work on these projects in three months.
The President who observed that existing roads should be widened to
ease traffic congestion, directed officials to widen the road from Kandy
Clock Tower to Girls High School premises to facilitate four lanes.
President Rajapaksa who observed that foundation stones for the
proposed new Katugastota Bridge had been laid on four occasions,
directed officials to complete it on target by May next year. |
