Isipatana take WP under 16 rugby title
RUGBY: Isipatana College clinched the Inter School under 16 Western
Province championship trophy by beating the formidable St Peter's
College by 10 points (two tries to five (1 try) during extra time in a
nail biting match played at Havelock Park on Sunday. Both teams played a
do or die game and went man to man with bone crushing tackling with the
scores reading 5 all during full time of play.
The game resumed again with three minutes play in each half, but
Isipathana were quick enough to plant a try during 2nd minute by their
Centre A Gallage who breezed through covering 45 metres to touch down
for a spectacular try near the corner flag, thus Isipatana College
became the champs.
The try scorers for Isipatana were hooker Isum Niroda and A. Gallage
(centre) while for St' Peter's the only try was planted by their forward
K.S. Perera.
These matches were played in two-venus, in segment A & B the under 16
was played at Havelock Park while the under 14 was worked off at the St'
Peter's College. The under 14 Cup champions (in segment B) were Lalith
Atulathmudali College Mt'Lavinia, who beat Lumbini College 7 points to

More than 300 participants from 28 schools took part in this grand
finale which was organised by the Western Province Schools Rugby
Football Association.
The chief guest was Fazal Mohammed (Former President Western Province
RFU/ Secretary SLRFU) while the guest of honour was K.A.D. Punyadasa
(Principal Isipathana College/President Wester Province Schools RFA)
graced the occasion.
