Upeksha clinches triple at WP TT C'ships

TABLE TENNIS: Upeksha Fernando of Girls' High School, Mount Lavinia clinched three titles at the Western Province Individual Table Tennis Championships worked off at the S. Thomas' College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia on Saturday.

The tournament was organised by the Nugegoda Table Tennis Club saw over 150 players taking part.

Fernando bagged a triple this time too by winning the under 18 girl's singles, under 21 girl's singles along with the open women's singles. In the under 18 girls singles final she beat Vidushini Malavige (Visakha Vidyalaya) 12/10, 11/08, in the under 21 girl's singles final Fernando routed her team mate Savindya Nipuni 11/09, 11/04 and in the open women's final Upeksha get the better of Mavulee Peiris 13/11, 11/04.

Sahanaka Ganegoda of Royal College was the other top performer of the event where he secured a double by winning both under 18 boy's singles and open men's singles events respectively.

He beat Rasika Manoj (Anura Central College, Yakkala) by two sets 11/04, 11/07 in the under 18 boys singles final, In the open men's singles final Sahanaka overcame Dr. G.N. Lucas (Veterans TT Club) which went the full distance 11/08, 07/11, 12/10.
