COLOMBO: Tharunyata Hetak launched its two major programmes, "Mathu
Lova Dinumata Nena Guna Wadawamu" (Win the world of the future by the
enhancement of knowledge) and "Thurunu Issawwa" (youth initiative), last
week as a part of its multi-faceted role of developing the country's
youth.
The "Mathu Lova Dinumata Nena Guna Wadawamu" project had been
launched at the Padavi Parakramapura Maha Vidyalaya last Saturday, with
the Presidential Social Development Director Nandana Wijesinghe
presiding.
The project is focussed on providing a proper and decent education on
a par with their counterparts in the rest of the country, to the
students who have been deprived of same due to the ethnic conflict in
the North and East.
Those students sitting the GCE Advanced Level examination in August
this year, will have the opportunity of participating in a host of
'Revision Classes' focussed on the August examination.
The revision classes of the 'Arts' stream are to be conducted by
renowned University Professors and Lecturers, in certain war-ravaged
regions, on July 10, 11, 14, 18 and 25.
At the 'Thurunu Issawwa' project launched by Madam Shiranthi
Rajapaksa at its general summit last Sunday at the BMICH, the disabled
war heroes were felicitated.
The distribution of 800,000 mobile 'Trade Carts' to low-income
beneficiaries under the self-employment project sponsored by Coca Cola
Company, the distribution of sports gear and gifts in cash, among
children who have excelled in sports in low-income families and the
award of scholarships to university students, also took place at this
function.
