BATTARAMULLA: Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister
Dinesh Gunawardane handed over title deeds to 45 families who were
living in Wickramasinghapura and Pelawatta for a long period without any
legal entitlement to their lands at a meeting at Pelawatta.
These people were undergoing immense hardships and were unable to
obtain State assistance in case of any disaster due to lack of a land
deed.
As a result of this, problem being brought to the attention of the
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh
Gunawardane by the residents of this area the Minister instructed the
Urban Development Authority to solve the problems of these residents.
Measures were taken to allocate deeds under the programme of
distributing houses for those who live below the poverty line in urban
housing schemes.
Minister Gunawardane said every family in this country should possess
a plot of land for a house.
Only Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is able to
identify the problems of the less privileged. There are ample commercial
banks and foreign countries to help the well-to-do but nobody comes
forward to help the poor.
What we want to do is to make the poor a privileged segment. Kaduwela,
Battaramulla and Pelawatta areas are being subjected to rapid
development.
Mayurapada Parivenadhipathi Ven. Walegoda Wimalasiri Thera, Kaduwela
Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman G. M. Buddhadasa, Urban Development Authority
Acting Director General Prasanna Silva and Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha
Members Sarath Sumanasekara, Nandasena Amarasena and Richard Balasooriya
also participated.
