Former DIG Tyrrell Goonatilleke laid to rest

COLOMBO: Former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Deputy
Inspector General of Police Tyrrell Goonatilleke was laid to rest with
full Police Honours recently. He died at the age of 80 on May 27. He
served the Sri Lanka Police from 1946 until he retired in 1987 serving
the Police Department for 41 years.
Twenty nine years of those years were spent in the Criminal
Investigation Department (CID).
He is remembered even now, 20 years after his retirement as "the
finest criminal investigation officer the Sri Lanka police ever produced
and indeed one who could stand proudly as an equal with the best in the
international arena."
It is said that "he has left as his legacy to both the Sri Lanka
Police in general and the CID in particular, a high standard of
professionalism, integrity and dedication which has yet to be matched."
He is the husband of Olga Goonatilleke, father of Shirani, Mozalle
and Shamila and grandfather of Gaurav, Taneeshya, Arithra, Rehantha and
Soraya. |
