4,700 volunteers to be made Assistant Teachers

COLOMBO: A total of 4,700 of volunteer teachers are to be absorbed as Assistant Teachers to the Sri Lanka Teachers' Service.

The recruitment process will be completed by July, said the Director of DSD schools R. Pathirana. Interviews are been carried out at present to recruit volunteer teachers for Provincial schools. Interviews have also been scheduled to recruit volunteer teachers for National Schools.

The Director said those candidates with a proficiency in a foreign language would have an advantage at the interviews. The candidates who are called for interviews need to have passed their GCE (O/L) and GCE (A/L) Examinations.

In addition, they should have a credit pass at the GCE (O/L) or GCE (A/L) Examinations for the subject which they teach in schools. The candidates need to have to complete three years continuous service by December 31, 2005.
