Malagamuwa fighting to retain MSS title
MOTOR RACING: The second round of the Malaysia Super car series was
held on May 27 at the Sepang F1 circuit with Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri
Lanka fighting to retain his title which he won last year.
The other contender for the the title is Malaysia's Wira Dani Dalm.
Malagamuwa who has collected 35 points from the first stage of the event
is on equal terms with Dalm. Dilantha who had good start finished first
in first in the first event ahead of Dalm though Dalm was on pole
position.
Malagamuwa was driving a Porsche 996 GT while his main rival was
behind the wheel of a Radical SR8 which has a high powered engine. The
Sri Lankan was at his best at cornering and was able to overcome Dalm.
Dalm's car had a swift run on the straights but could not cope with
Malagamuwa specially when driving through corners. The winner got ahead
of his rival in the third lap and maintained it until the end. Dalm was
trying his besr but failed in all his attempts.
Peter Hills the other driver who is posing a big threat to Malagamuwa
last year was not in the first three places, while Stewart Seater
finished as the second runner up in the first stage.
In the days second race Dilantha had a fine start and was in front
for almost 12 laps with Dalm chasing behind him. Dalm with his fluency
in the straight got past Malgamuwa in the 13th lap. Malagamuwa could not
keep pace with Radical SR8 as his engine did not have sufficient power
to over run him and had to finish as the runner up here. Here too
Stewart finished as the third behind Malagamuwa. Both races were run as
15 lap events.
With both drivers collecting 35 points each from this second round
Dalm and Malagamuwa are placed once again on top with a tally of 70
points.
Malaysian drivers are making a great effort to grab the title what
they lost last year. On the other hand Malagamuwa is determined to
retain his title for a further period. and He says that he will do few
modifications to hie vehicle in a bid to fight his rival's power packed
engine in the next round which is scheduled to be held in July.
Malagamuwa is due to race again on same circuit on 24th of June.
Meanwhile he has been invited by organizers to race in The Hong Kong
Super Car Asia GT championship. This race will be competed by 12
Porsches and 12 Ferraris from all parts of the world.
