Over 1,000 kgs of explosives seized

NIKAWERATIYA: Police seized over 1,000 kgs of explosives concealed in a lorry transporting coconuts from Kurunegala to Puttalam at a checkpoint at Kotavehera, Palugashandiya yesterday. This is the largest stock of explosives seized by police upto date.

The explosives were stacked in 47 packs each weighing 20kgs. The driver and the assistant have been arrested.

Police said they thwarted a suicide attack when they stopped the truck packed with powerful explosives at the checkpoint.
