50 new houses for Kalutara's tsunami hit

KALUTARA: Fifty new houses built at Beruwala Batala Araliyawatta for tsunami affected families in Kalutara were distributed among the beneficiaries by Nation Building Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardhana on May 27.

Abeygunawardhana said the Government had been able to provide housing facilities for more than 90 per cent of the tsunami affected families in the Kalutara district.

The government is extremely thankful to the foreign countries, voluntary organisations and individuals who had funded these projects, the Minister said.

The Batala Araliyawatta housing scheme was built by the Irene Sri Lanka Trust organisation at a cost of Rs. 10 million.

A special feature was that each house is fully equipped with furniture and other effects.
