Ranaviru Day commemorated in Colombo

COLOMBO: Battlefront Heroes were ceremonially feted at yesterday's "Ranaviru
Day" at Torrington Square under the patronage of Western Province
Governor Alavi Mowlana and Chief Minister Reginald Cooray.
Mowlana appealed to the public to spend a part of the money which
have being allocated for their additional expenses for disabled
soldiers.
"The Forces' involvement in protecting the country's sovereignty and
territorial integrity for the last three decades should be commended.
They have made a safe and secure environment for all communities of the
country. They have sacrificed their lives for well being of others," he
added.
Floral tributes to the fallen heroes were placed by Mowlana, Cooray,
representatives of the Security Forces and family members of soldiers.
The ceremony was organised by the Western Provincial Council under
the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. |
