Sri Lanka seniors win bridge bronze medal in Pakistan

Bridge : The Sri Lanka Seniors Bridge team comprising Yasa Karunaratne (Captain), Manel de Niese, T. Shanmugalingam and Asoka Thenuwara won the Bronze Medal in the 14th BFAME Bridge Championships held in Karachi, Pakistan recently.

This competition was played on 3 round robins of 9 matches in all. At the 8th round Sri Lanka was ranked 2nd.

In the final round Sri Lanka beat Jordon 24-6. However in the last round the favourites India lost their match to Pakistan, thus setting up a India/Pakistan final. The winning team (from left) Asoka Thenuwara, T. Shanmuglingam, Yasa Karunaratne (Captain) and Manel de Niese - Carlton Hotel Karachi.

Transnational teams: In the Transnational Teams Competition Sri Lanka Team comprising Yasa Karunaratne (Captain), Anton Selvanaygam, Bandula Senaweera, Fritz Perera and H.H.J. Keerthisena performed well and finished 6th out of 24 teams.

In the 6th round Sri Lanka fought fiercely to beat India 25-2.
