UNP must submit proposals without delay - Chief Prelate
Indika Polkotuwa
KANDY: It is the duty of the UNP as the main opposition to submit its
proposals for resolving the national problem in writing as done by the
SLFP without constantly engaging in criticism, Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe
Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayaka Thera of the Malwatte Chapter said.
The Prelate said this when a copy of the alternative proposals of the
UNP Democratic Group was presented to him by Enterprise Development
Minister Mano Wijeyeratne at the Malwatte Viharaya in Kandy yesterday.
The Mahanayaka Thera said when parties submit their proposals to the
APRC, they could be discussed to find a consensus after dropping
unhealthy proposals if any. The alternative proposals of the UNP
Democratic Group, which is a major political group, would be vital for
this exercise.
Wijeyeratne also presented a copy of his group's proposals to the
Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Mahanayaka Thera of the Asgiriya
Chapter at the Asgiriya Viharaya.
The Asgiriya Prelate expressing his sentiments, said power should be
devolved to village level and as such the grama rajyaya concept was very
significant.
The Prelate pointed out that the ancient village committee system
played a significant role in promoting village level development.
Wijeyeratne said power should be devolved to cater to the needs of
all communities. |
