Building materials for Jaffna

COLOMBO: The Government has made arrangements to meet the building material requirements of the development work of the Jaffna district, a Presidential Secretariat release said. The Government has released 1,500 metric tons of cement, 407 metric tons of asbestos roofing sheets, cross bars, aluminium, paint, thinner and electrical items, via Merks Ruhunu ship. The ship left for Jaffna yesterday.

Arrangements have been made to ensure that the building material sent to Jaffna district consists of goods not detrimental to National Security. This was done on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's directive, the release said.

The President has directed that all building material requirements for construction work in the Jaffna District be met without any room for a shortage. Steps have also been taken to provide school books for the student population in the Jaffna district. Generators, wires and cables have also been sent to Jaffna through the same ship.

The supply of goods was implemented after Presidential Senior Advisor Basil Rajapaksa visited Jaffna district and met people and State officials there, the release added.
