Building materials for Jaffna
COLOMBO: The Government has made arrangements to meet the building
material requirements of the development work of the Jaffna district, a
Presidential Secretariat release said. The Government has released 1,500
metric tons of cement, 407 metric tons of asbestos roofing sheets, cross
bars, aluminium, paint, thinner and electrical items, via Merks Ruhunu
ship. The ship left for Jaffna yesterday.
Arrangements have been made to ensure that the building material sent
to Jaffna district consists of goods not detrimental to National
Security. This was done on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's directive, the
release said.
The President has directed that all building material requirements
for construction work in the Jaffna District be met without any room for
a shortage. Steps have also been taken to provide school books for the
student population in the Jaffna district. Generators, wires and cables
have also been sent to Jaffna through the same ship.
The supply of goods was implemented after Presidential Senior Advisor
Basil Rajapaksa visited Jaffna district and met people and State
officials there, the release added. |
