Laugfs 'JADE' - 1st anniversary on grand scale

The first anniversary of the Jade Restaurant, Jubilee Post, Mirihana, Nugegoda was celebrated on a grand scale yesterday, amidst a host of VIPs and other leading personalities in the hospitality industry.

Deputy General Manager, Takura Gunasinghe, Deputy General Manager, Vasantha Pamunuwa, Finance Manager, Prasanna Suriyaarachchi, Operations Manager, Laugfs Restaurants, Nimal Wijesinghe, Operations Manager, Laugfs SunUp Super Markets, Sunil Rahubadda, Brand and Customer Care Manager, Prabath Wickremasinghe and Manager Jade Restaurant, Jubilee Post, T. Jade Restaurant is the first of a chain of authentic Chinese restaurant which are being set up by Laugfs at strategic locations.

Jade Restaurants at Jubilee Post which could accommodate around 80 guests, has fast become a very popular family spot due to the fact that alcohol is not being served. It offers nothing but the best in Chinese cuisine prepared by hand picked expert chefs.

SLITHM introduces new study programs

The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel management (SLITHM) which offers management and Certificate Level courses for youth is a Government holding under the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.

The SLITHM has its' state of the art training facility at No. 78, Galle Road, Colombo 03 and has satellite schools in Kandy, Matara, Anuradhapura & Bandarawela. Youth between the ages of 17 - 24 years are eligible to apply.

Those who possess a minimum of two simple passes at the G.C.E. Advanced Level are eligible to apply for the Management Diploma course and students with a minimum of three credits and three passes with simple passes for Mathematics & English for Ordinary Level may apply for the Certificate Level courses.

This rule does not apply for Industry personnel. The duration of the Management Diploma is three years while the Certificate Level courses are of five months duration.

There is also a bridging option for the Certificate level students to join the final year of the three year Management Diploma course with an Industrial experience component of two years.

Students with backgrounds in CIMA, Human Resources and Marketing etc. also have the option to join the Management Diploma course in the final year, should they opt for a career in the hospitality industry. Under the Mahinda Chinthana concept it is also proposed to conduct short courses in Engliish, French, German and Japanese, Courses in Pastry Making and Fruit, Vegetable, Butter and Ice carving will also be introduced in the near future.

These programmes will be open to all age groups and will be conducted by a panel of well experienced lecturers. This will be a boon to students, house wives and those who wish to embark on a self employment projects or those aspiring to do a study programme as Tourist Guides Lecturers, Translators, and Guest House owners etc..

A certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants at the conclusion of the course.

The institute also encourages schools to visit the facility to see the SLITHM in operation.
