No restriction on TU activities

COLOMBO: No restriction has been imposed on Trade Union activities under the present Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana yesterday.

The Governor was speaking at a ceremony to absorb more than 250 CMC employees into the pensionable fold. This was a fulfilment of a 20-year-long demand of the CMC employees.

"This pension right is a value added factor for an employee and it contributes for the well-being of the employee and his family",the Governor said.

The CMC has no capacity to provide efficient services with an outdated drainage and sewerage system."

A master plan outlining the development requirements should be prepared to obtain funds for the city development, he said. CMC Secretary Gamini Gunasekera, Sri Lanka Nidahas Seva Trade Union Secretary K. J. A. Silva also spoke. Governor Mowlana and Colombo Mayor Mohammed Imitiaz distributed pension entitlement letters among the employees.
