President's tour impetus for investment links:

Following bilateral talks between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Jordanian King Abdullah Al Hussein, Jordanian Trade Minister Salim Kahazailh expressed much optimism for enhanced trade links between Sri Lanka and Jordan with the signing of the new agreement.

Kuwait help for oil exploration

Kuwait will send a team of oil experts to Sri Lanka to help its on-going oil exploration efforts and its actions under way to modernise existing oil refineries. The Oil Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah has promised to send the team of oil experts during bilateral talks held between him and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kuwait , yesterday.

Jordan to release jailed Lankans

Sri Lankan expatriate workers detained in Jordan will be released and repatriated soon following a request made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to King Abdullah Al Hussein of Jordan in Amman, President's Media sources said.

Financial Ombudsman: relief - giver to the enterprising public

The concept of the Ombudsman as a person who resolves a dispute between two persons is as old as the hills. We had a similar set-up in the Kandyan court in the form of a person called 'Duk Ganna Rala. Whether he looked into disputes of the public against the administration or not is not quite clear. But that there was an institution to hear complaints etc is what is important.
