HNB and Commercial Bank joint champs of Mercantile 'A' Division
League

HOCKEY: Hatton National Bank and Commercial Bank were declared
joint champions when they scored fifteen points each at the Mercantile
`A' division League Hockey tournament 2007 played for the Singer trophy
and worked off at the Astro turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo, recently. Sierra
Electronics with twelve points were placed third. The tournament was
organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association.
In the `B' division league tournament played for the M&E trophy ended
with Hatton National Bank taking the honours got underway at Astro turf,
recently. Browns group with six points ended up as runner up while John
Keells group with five points finished third.
HSBC clinched the Phoenix Industries trophy when they came top in the
points table registering eight points in their `C' division league
tournament played at Astro turf. Unilevers with six points and Sri
Lankan Airlines with four points were the runner up and second runner up
respectively.
In the `D' division league tournament V&U Electronics took the John
Keells trophy as they were two points ahead of A.W.Dahanayake group who
ended up as runner up with a total of five points.
Led by Eranga Jayasuriya, Hatton National Bank `A' beat Commercial
Bank by four goals to two in penalty shoot out to win the Hatna Trophy
`A' division hockey knock out championship in the final worked off at
the Astro turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo, recently.
The championship was organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association
for the current year.
At the half time scores stood at one all and at the end of the
specified time the scores were three all as both teams found their form
and the game was competitive. Charitha Senanayake and M.Ghazalie were
the goal scorers for winners while Anju Hewage and Sumith Jayasena stood
out for losers.
The match was refereed by I.Jayawardane and N.Paranadheeran.
Before reaching final Hatton National Bank defeated Seylan Bank by
one goal to nil. At the half time scores read one goal to nil.
In the other semi final match Commercial Bank overcame Sampath Bank
three goals to nil while qualifying for the final encounter. At the end
of the first half scores were one goal to nil.
In the quarter final matches Sampath Bank beat Singer by three goals
to two while Seylan Bank beat Sierra Electronics by three goals to one
in the other quarter final.
In the `B' division Knock-Out Tournament played for the Air Lanka
Trophy Browns group took the honours in the match worked off at Astro
turf recently.
Brows group beat Hatton National Bank `B' by two goals to nil in the
final. Before reaching final Browns group overcame John Keells group by
the same margin of two goals to nil in a semi final match.
Hatton National Bank secured their place in the final when they
defeated Arpico team by a convincing margin of four goals to nil.
In the `C' division knock-out tournament HSBC outclassed Sri Lankan
Airlines by one goal to nil to win the Commercial Bank trophy played at
Astro turf, recently.
In the semi final match Hongkong Bank beat Airport and Aviation team
by five goals to nil while Sri Lnkan Airlines beat Unilevers by three
goals to one in the other semi final.
V&U Electronics emerged champions in the `D' division knock out
tournament to win the Derrick Harvie trophy played at Astro turf,
recently.
They beat A.W.Dahanayake group by three goals to two in the final. |
