World Cup and the squash ball
I have set in motion a course of action for Sri Lanka Cricket to
obtain a scientifically analyzed report to submit to the International
Cricket Council, with regard to any assistance the use of a squash ball
may have given Adam Gilchrist, to enhance his performance at the World
Cup.
I have contacted the President of the Institution of Engineers Sri
Lanka Mr. D. L. Taldena and the Executive Secretary Mr. Russel de Silva
and requested them to obtain the services of the Mechanical Engineering
Divisions of Katubedda or Peradeniya Universities to conduct a
scientific investigation into this matter and submit a report to Sri
Lanka Cricket so that SLC could take up this matter with the ICC, if it
is proven that the use of a Squash ball as was done by Gilchrist could
have enhanced his performance.
I have also requested the Hony Secretary of SLC K. Mathivanan to
officially write to the Institution of Engineers, requesting their
assistance in this regard.
The assistance of a person conversant with Bio-mechanics such as Dr.
Geethanjana Mendis and a Physicist could be added to the team that will
make this investigation.
I trust that SLC will actively follow on the course of action that I
have initiated. Neil Perera
