Women spikers for Vietnam

VOLLEYBALL: Sri Lanka’s women spikers led by Sri Lanka Port Authority’s Chandima Akarawita left the island for Vietnam to compete at the fourth Vietnam TV volleyball championships which will be held till May 20.

This year the tournament has attracted teams from China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Sri Lanka and the host country Vietnam.

Only four spikers who participated in the South Asian Games last year have included into the squad. All others are new comers and the Federation expects a good performance from these players. At the same time it expects the players to gain the much needed international exposure.

The youngest and the baby of the squad is seventeen-year-old W. P. Thushari from Vijayaba MV, Hungama. Along with her the other two debutants to enter the national squad are Prasadeni Chamarika from Comfort Wear and Leena Somaratne from Casual Line fame.

These two spikers were the ones who brought fame to their respective clubs to win many matches during the concluded national championships.
