Fictitious European Union Residence Permit Programme

COLOMBO:The European Union is not conducting a “European Union Residence Permit Programme,” the Delegation of the European Commission to Sri Lanka and the Maldives said in a release yesterday.

Persons in receipt of such a letter using the EU logo should not make any payment as such a scheme does not exist, the release said.

“We thank the public for bringing this to our notice. Please be informed that an investigation is now under way to cease this false money making operation. Should you need further clarification contact us on 2674413,” the release added.

Academic programme begins on May 16

PERADENIYA: The End Semester Examinations (2006/2007) of the Faculty of Science of the Peradeniya University will commence on May 16, a release said.

The intensive course in English and foundation courses for new entrants will commence on May 28, 2007.

Int’l Fisheries Observer parley in Canada

CANADA:Prabhath Patabendi, a member of the American Fisheries Association, will represent Sri Lanka at the fifth International Fisheries Observer Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada from May 15 to 18.

He will speak on ‘Fishery Monitoring and observation in Sri Lanka’.

This major world conference will be attended by 275 fisheries sector personnel from 40 countries.
