World Quiz Championship on June 2
COLOMBO:The International Quiz Association (IQA), the world’s
premiere Quiz organisation, will conduct fourth annual World Quizzing
Championships on June 2.
IQA’s aim is to elevate the quiz to a similar status as other mind -
sports such as Chess and Bridge. It has been working with quiz
organisations world wide to run the World Quizzing Championships. Sri
Lankan quiz enthusiasts will compete in this event for the second time
this year.
World Quizzing Championships (WQC) is an individual written quiz held
around the globe at almost the same time. The quiz consists of 240
questions, to be answered in a maximum allowed time of 90 minutes.
The questions are divided into eight categories. The categories are
not limited to, the arts and entertainment, history, science, current
affairs, geography, mythology and sports feidls.
The top five ranked Quiz players of Sri Lanka in 2006 were Haren
Fernando, Lathika Niriella, Raihana Sawaad, Nalaka Gunawardene and
Srilal Waidyatilleka.
Sri Lankans this year will compete against contestants from the UK,
US, Belgiam, India, Estonia, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Finland,
Norway, Croatia, France, Germany and Australia.
According to Sri Lankan representative of the IQA, Ruwan Senanayake
all arrangements are under way to conduct the Sri Lanka leg of the quiz
in Colombo. The quiz open to all Sri Lankans will conducted in English.
The venue for the Sri Lanka leg will be the Post Graduate Institute
of Management (PIM), 28, Leslie Ranagala Mawatha, Colombo 08. The quiz
will be held on June 2 from 6.30 p.m to 8.30 p.m.
