Indonesian ship crew further remanded

COLOMBO: Colombo Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardane yesterday ordered four Indonesians who allegedly overstayed their visas be further remanded.

The four were arrested by Peliyagoda Police at the Peliyagoda checkpoint when they were travelling from Negombo to Colombo. Police informed Court that Soysavantho, Claud Santhrayanvan, Radiyamo and Uthamo were members of a ship’s crew.

Police told Court that they had informed the Indonesian High Commission about the arrest.

Two officials of the Indonesian High commission told court that they have informed the Fishing Company where the suspects were employed about the arrest and that the Company would be sending a lawyer.

The Magistrate ordered of the four suspects be remanded until May 24 in the absence of any application from the defence.
