Lack of A/L classes at MV a handicap

TALAWA: Students intending to pursue GCE Advanced Level studies in the Tambuttegama, Pahalagama, Pothiyagama, Maithree Maha Vidyalaya are very badly handicapped due to unavailability of Advanced Level classes in the school, says R. M. Sirisena, Secretary School Development Society (SDS).

Pothiyagama is 7 kilometers from Talawa or Tambuttegama. The nearest school is 5 k.m. away at Bellankadawala which has Advanced Level classes. There is no proper school bus service to Talawa or Bellankadawala and no buses to Tambuttegama.

The Secretary said, Parents of a majority of students are poor farmers and they can’t afford to send their children to any other school.

The Secretary laments that the School Development Society of Pothiyagama Maithree Vidyalaya has requested the Education authorities on the matter several times, but they have turned a deaf-ear to the requests.
