Flood and earthslip warning

COLOMBO: Heavy rains lashed several areas in the country yesterday and the rains are expected to continue. Low-scale floods were reported from several provinces.

The National Meteorological Centre has warned of localised floods and earthslips in the Kalutara district and in areas experiencing heavy rainfall within the past hours.

The Centre says a low level disturbance that developed very close to the island has caused the rain over most parts of the island during the past few days.

The Weather report says rainy conditions with some heavy rainfall to some parts, will continue in the coming days.

The following areas experienced significant rainfall during the past 24 hours: Puttalam 99.5 mm, Wellawaya 91.2 mm, Kandy 87 mm, Maskeliya 86.9 mm, Matugama 75.7 mm, Canyon 75 mm, Poldagama 74 mm and Colombo Fort 53.7 mm.
