COLOMBO: Colombo Chief Magistrate Sarojani Kusala Weerawardane
yesterday discharged ‘Maubima’ journalist Munisamy Parameshwari who was
arrested for alleged connections with an LTTE suspect.
The journalist was detained for the past three months and 15 days
pending completion of inquiries by the Terrorist Investigation
Department. The order was delivered by the Magistrate following
submissions made by the Attorney General’s Department that there was no
sufficient evidence to prove the suspect had connections with the LTTE.
The TID informed Court that there was no sufficient evidence to file
charges against the journalist of having provided accommodation to
terrorist suspect Sunandhi.
The TID produced the Parameshwari before the Colombo Chief Magistrate
yesterday with a further report of the investigation and a copy of the
Attorney General’s order. The TID informed Court they were conducting
inquiries on the other two suspects who was arrested along with
Parameshwari.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the TID to produce the other two
suspects, who are at Boossa, before Courts today with a report on the
