COLOMBO: Colombo Additional Magistrate and District Judge
Sujatha Alahapperuma yesterday ordered the Colombo Fraud Bureau to
arrest the suspect who had allegedly forged the signature of the Chief
Executive of Sri Lanka Cricket Duleep Mendis to procure British visas
for two persons.
The Fraud Bureau yesterday brought to court’s notice the complaint
made by Mendis. The Bureau said the suspect made the visa requests from
the British High Commission on Sri Lanka Cricket letter heads, under the
purported signature of the Sri Lanka Cricket Chief Executive. The
signatures were forgeries. The suspect who is from Galle has obtained
more than Rs. 1.3 million from the unsuspecting victims.
The suspect had given the letters bearing the forged signature of
Mendis to the duo to obtain visas from the British High Commission. The
victims had to meet Mendis and informed him regarding the letters.
Mendis had then lodged a complaint to the Fraud Bureau.
Alahappperuma ordered the Fraud Bureau to arrest the suspect and
submit a report to court on the progress of the case on May 16. |
