Sri Lanka capitalises on first Middle East MICE show
SHOW: Sri Lanka Convention Bureau together with SriLankan
airlines and industry members took part in the 3-day exhibition for the
global meetings and incentives industry GIBTM ( Gulf Incentive, Business
Travel and Meetings Exhibition) held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition
Centre (ADNEC) from March 13-15.
The event brought in over 175 international suppliers and 218
industry hosted buyers.
Middle East has been identified as an emerging and potential market
for meetings and incentives for Sri Lanka
delegation: The Sri Lankan delegation comprising Kumudu Hennadige of
Convention Bureau, Bandhula Ekanayake of BMICH and Desiree
Premachandra of SriLankan Airlines.

and the Bureau has proactively taken action to capitalise on
this opportunity to establish business links with buyers.
The event has been successful said the participating industry
members. Sri Lanka Convention Bureau will enhance its efforts in the
middle east and the next move of the Bureau is to join hands with Sri
Lanka Tourist Board at the Arabian Travel Market in May to take
advantage on the MICE element of the fair.
Sri Lanka convention Bureau is an institution under the Ministry of
tourism responsible for the development of the MICE industry convering
Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions.
The Sri Lankan delegation comprised Kumudu Hennedige, Assistant
Manager-Marketing of the Bureau, Bandhula Ekanayake, Director General
BMICH, D.K.R. Dharmapala, General Manager Lanka Sportreizen, Hameem
Farook, Manager Sales Amaya Resorts and Anuruddha Bandara joint CEO Wild
Drift with Sri lankan Ambassador Mohammed Junaid and Desiree
Premechandra Manager SriLankan Airlines Middleast joining the team in
Abu Dhabi. |
