REDESIGNED: The State Engineering Corporation has redesigned
an operating model, shedding its lethargic attitude it had during the
past, with the intention of entering the Government's construction
stream in development.
The vision and mission statement for the ensuing five years to fall
in line with this "Mahinda Chintana" by harnessing every resource to
regain the prestige.and value of this corporation as the giant in the
construction industry in now in operation, Chairman Raja Edirisinghe
told the 'Daily News'.
A mega construction undertaken by the corporation, after the
appointment of the new management by the Government, is to tie up with
the Dockyard to fulfil ship building contracts. The increase in demand
from overseas clients of the Dockyard, especially from India has
resulted in the need to build a partnership with such as SEC.
"The work that the Dockyard would be able to offer this SEC, is
guaranteed to see an increase in the future. Work has already begun and
is in its initial stages," the Chairman said.
"Considering the potential and availability of man and material in
the context of the current development plans of the SEC for the future,
this corporation is steadily gaining ground in assuming private sector
dynamism under the leadership of the management," he further said.
"Since this new management take-over, measures have been taken to
maximise the utility of the assets, machinery and man-power already
possessed by the SEC. And also it has taken various crucial decisions to
improve immediate cash inflows to inject a much needed boost to this
corporation."
"This is a deleberate and successful way of tackling the problem of
deficiencies in capital in the construction industry as recognised by
the Government policy."
"The supply of necessary capital goods has already grown under the
far-sighted direction of this management, strengthening the
Corporation's asset base enabling to undertake mega projects at short
notice. The SEC in also demonstrating this local construction industry's
capability to meet competition from overseas companies. "
"The revival of the State Engineering Corporation is already
evident," the Chairman further said. |
