Sailing into an area dominated by males

COLOMBO: A female has successfully completed an officer cadet training course and obtained a Certificate of Competency in Sri Lanka.

D. M. B. Lasanthi from Balangoda has ventured into an area dominated by males and obtained a Certificate of Competency as an officer In charge of a Navigational Watch-unlimited from the Merchant Shipping Division of the Ministry of Ports and Aviation. Lasanthi was educated at the Ratnapura Seewali Central College and successfully completed the Advanced Level Examination in the Mathematics stream.

In 2000, she entered the University of Moratuwa to follow an NDT programme in nautical studies limited only to male students up to that time.
