No bail for Lankan arrested in India
INDIA: The District and Sessions Court here on Wednesday
dismissed the bail petition of a Sri Lankan Tamil, Arulseelan, who was
arrested by the `Q' Branch here a few days ago.
Arulseelan (31), from whom a sum of Rs. 10 lakh in cash, a cell phone
and a motorcycle, was seized, was arrested under the provisions of the
Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Foreigners Act by the `Q'
Branch after he could not properly account for the huge amount of cash
in his possession.
Based on the information given by Arulseelan, the `Q' Branch sleuths
took into custody Rahulan alias Anthony, another Sri Lankan Tamil here,
and seized 4.5 tonnes of iron balls from a house at Perambalur based on
the information given by the latter.
Following the arrest of Arulseelan, a petition was moved in the
District and Sessions Court here seeking to grant him bail. The
prosecution opposed the petition stating that Arulseelan and Rahulan
alias Anthony had network all over the country and were receiving money
to produce explosive substances.
They were involved in the activity affecting the national security
and integrity, it said adding that the interrogation of Rahulan alias
Anthony, the key man in the iron balls seizure case, was still on. The
prosecution also submitted that of the six persons arrested so far in
connection with the iron balls seizure case, four were Sri Lankan Tamils
and two were Indians.
Admitting the prosecution's argument, the District and Sessions Judge
P. Ramakrishnan dismissed the bail petition of Arulseelan, who is in
judicial custody at present.
