UNP will lose next poll too under Ranil - Rajitha

COLOMBO: The United National Party will definitely lose the next election if Ranil Wickremesinghe leads the party, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday.

“The party has no plan that would lead it to victory. The UNP has been defeated 14 times in elections including two Presidential Elections and two general elections,” Senaratne told a press conference.

Regarding the verdict of the courts, the Minister said Ranil Wickremesinghe had violated natural justice and the courts have given a fair decision.

The UNP working committee is illegal since the party leader has appointed its members dictatorially.

He has appointed his henchmen to the working committee in a shameless manner, Senaratne charged.

He quashed speculation that the President would dissolve Parliament and go for a General Election.

“The President will not dissolve the Government since it has the majority,” the Minister added. Answering a question regarding the purported Government-LTTE agreement, the Minister said if there is such an agreement the Government need not fight the LTTE in this manner.

“As far as I know the LTTE would never go for an agreement with people like Sripathi Sooriyarachchi.

It might be an open discussion but not an agreement,” the Minister pointed out.
