Australian philanthropist helps the needy
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka as one of the nations rich with her
hospitality has developed friendly contacts with private donors and
there are many such instances. A silent admirer from Australia is a case
in point.
Such is the humanitarian work being rendered by reputed Australian
philanthropist Brian Henry Carl Sherlid, who following his personal
friendship with Sumanasena Abeywarne, former Sri Lankan Consul General
for Sydney, Australia arrived in Sri Lanka to help the needy.
Brian is a leading businessman and a reputed legal officer in
Australia and highly respected. He is a recognized philanthropist and
donor.
The Government of Australia in appreciation of his humanitarian
services conferred on him the laurel “Medal of Australia” to coincide
with the birthday anniversary celebrations of the Queen Elizabeth in the
year 2003.
His loving-kindness helps hundreds of school-going children as a
result of scholarships given by him. He looks after elderly people in
many institutes and does not fail to travel to remote areas badly
affected by poverty and other factors.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa too when he was the Prime Minister, has
attended Brian’s humanitarian aid projects and admired them.
He has helped in development of Hambantota District since the day he
arrived in Sri Lanka. We wish blessings of the noble Triple Gem. May he
be well and happy!
