Handful of miserable people betraying country for LTTE payments - Agriculture Minister

KOTTE: Agriculture Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara said there is a handful of miserable people in this country who betray the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and Malays for payments made by the wretched LTTE.

They engage in this by hiding behind democratic political parties. Their main duty is to do menial service to international forces. There are certain groups who depend on NGOs and are paid by them, he told Parliament.

“Gayantha Karunathilleke is harping on a statement purported to have been made by Sripathi Suriyarathchi to the effect that the Sri Lankan Security Forces are bombing deserts in the Eastern Province. Why is he repeating it just because some one is alleged to have said it. Even a person who has studied upto Grade 6 knows that there are no deserts in the Eastern Province. Anyone who has studied Social Studies and Geography will know that there are no deserts there. How can there be deserts in Thoppigala, Karadiyanaru and Mawil Aru,” Nanayakkara said.

“When I was in the Opposition too I spoke about patriotism. But certain people on our side opposed such statements. I hate them even today”.
