St. Joseph’s Girls School Under-17 Cager Champions

BASKETBALL: St. Joseph’s Girls School, Nugegoda beat St. Paul’s Girls School, Milagiriya by 66 points to 62 in the final of the All-island Under-17 ‘A’ Division Girls Basketball Tournament played at St. Joseph’s Girls School, Court, Nugegoda yesterday after trailing 29-31 at half time.

Solanchi Gunawijaya (19), Chethani Peiris (15) and Jayani Nugi (11) played a grand game for the winners while Lahiruka Weeraratne (21), Nayanika Darshani (14) and Nuwanthika Ratnayake (12) stood out for the losers.

Chethani Peiris was adjudged the Best Player while Lahiruka Weeraratne was the Best Offensive Player Manarangi Jayasinghe was the Best Defensive Player.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike BMV, Colombo won the consolation final by beating. Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala by 56 points to 44 after leading 25-23 at half time.

Evanthi Rajapakse (23) and Buddhika Wijenayake (12) excelled for the winners while Viyuni Abeysinghe (32) fought a lone battle for the losers.
