Chittagong Sri Lankan CC in 16-run win

CRICKET: The Chittagong Sri Lankan Cricket Club beat Dhaka Sri Lankan Cricket Club by 16 runs in their 17th annual cricket encounter for the third consecutive year in a 35 over cricket match played at Samaria International Cricket Stadium, Chittagong on March 2.

This eventful 35 over cricket match was organized by Sri Lankan expatriates in Chittagong. It produced cricket of a high standard. This encounter was sponsored by Premier Group, Comtextile, Univogue, Ken Park, Regency and several leading Sri Lankan companies in Chittagong.

Dhaka team won the toss and invited the host team Chittagong to bat first. By lunch Chittagong Sports Club had scored 227 runs losing five wickets in their allotted 35 overs. Chaluka Jayatissa who scored a circumspect 51 not out from 48 balls, Tyrel 16, Athula 45, Suraj 26, Thushara 02, skipper Upali 35, Jayah 29 not out also made useful contributions Skipper Upali Wickramaratne played a captain’s knock and gave a sterling performance by taking a spectacular catch, one run out, took 2 for 40 and scored a superb 35 runs and was adjudged the man of the match while T. Jayah took 2 for 27. In reply Dhaka team who played admirably replied with a respectable 211 for nine wickets in 35 overs.

Kolitha Gunaratne and skipper Dulip Gunaratne who played their hearts out were dismissed for 50 and 37 runs respectively.

The other leading scorers were Munna 33, Asanga 22, Shamil 19 , Ameen Arfeen 21.

The chief guest was Kaisar Ali (Consul of Sri Lanka in Chittagong).

Replicas were presented to all participants by Dushantha Kiriella (President of Sri Lankan Association of Bangladesh.)
