Sri Lanka and India must work together to save human life from terrorism - Social Services Minister

COLOMBO: Human life is immensely valuable. People born to live are dying day by day. Whether they be Tamil speaking, Muslims or Sinhalese, all are human beings, war is the root cause for death and destruction.

War can not fulfil one’s aims in life. This is the truth that I have understood through experience, states K.N. Douglas Devananda, M.P., Secretary General - EPDP, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare in a press release.

But strangely, even to date Prabahakaran’s only aim is to wage this destructive war. He likes war because it is needed for his existence.

Prabahakaran and company has closed the path leading to a political solution, instead he is waging a war that leads to the grave yard. We are not aware, for what purpose this war is continued to be waged.

However, Tamil speaking people have no liking whatsoever to war. If they liked the war, there is no necessity for the LTTE to conscript children. If the people like the war children will be too willing to join the LTTE. But this is not the ground situation. The only intention of the tamil speaking people is to save children from the deadly jaws of Prabahakaran and company.

The LTTE’s strategy is to launch attacks against the Security Forces, the Security Forces in turn retaliate, killing Tamil speaking people. Being in such destructive situation, the Tiger leader is to gain fall-out for his political advantage.

One mustn’t do what one’s enemy likes. This should be well understood by the Government forces and act accordingly. Prabhakaran’s desire is to see the death and destruction of people. Kill the others! or Get killed! This is the cynical liking of Prabhakaran.

Tamil speaking people should get killed by the Security Forces, this is his sole appeasement. The Security Forces, therefore, must act with caution and not get caught in this vicious trap. The Tiger leadership is waging war for this purpose. This ground reality needs to be well understood.

The LTTE leadership assassinated President Premadasa, assassinated Mr. Athulathmudali, assassinated Gamini Dissanayake and attempted murder on many others. But by doing so, it has not been able to achieve any of its aims.

The Tiger leadership assassinated Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, murdered Comrade Pathmanabha and ten other comrades in Tamil-Nadu. Through this course of action, threats have been raised against the security and sovereignty of India as well as threats to political relations among the neighbouring countries.

Because of this many countries have proscribed the LTTE on their soils. They have been designated as Terrorists. At present the LTTE leadership is trying to smuggle in, through the sea routes armaments and other destructive device using India as a camp.

These arms will be used to destroy the lives of people. Smuggling in of war hardware has caused a threat to both Sri Lanka and India.

Therefore, a responsibility is cast upon on India as well as Sri Lanka to save the lives of people from the Tiger leadership.

Sri Lanka and India must jointly act against LTTE terrorism. They must come forward hand in hand to save the lives of people.

People like to witness, Sri Lanka and India work together, having well understood the fact that the problems of Tigers are different and the problems of the Tamil speaking people are different. We too like to see this development.

“Tigers are always for war! While the Government is called upon to face this challenge, a solution to bring about Peace, that the Tamil speaking people yearn so much, need to be expedited”, he said.
