Foreign employment targets Rs. 30 billion this year - Labour

MATARA: The Government expects to earn Rs. 30 billion foreign
exchange through foreign employment this year, Labour Relations and
Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratne said. “It was Rs. 20 billion last
year,” he said.
He stated this at the opening ceremony of the Foreign Employees’
Unit’s second provincial branch of the Labour Ministry at Pamhorana,
Matara recently. “Employees engaged in foreign employment are an asset
to our country.
Every action will be taken to solve their problems, in consultation
with foreign countries where they are working in”, the Minister said. To
ensure a solid future for employees, a special pension scheme will be
implemented shortly, he added.
Ministry Secretary Mahinda Madihahewa and several others also spoke.
Foreign Employees unit’s chairman Jagath Wellawatta, Deputy General
Manager C. K. Ruhunage were also present.
