Accused in acid throwing case found guilty

COLOMBO: Mohamed Alif of Colombo 2 accused of throwing acid on
Suppaiah Alagaswamy Kandaswamy, General Secretary of the National
Development Trade Union was found guilty of the crime by Colombo Fort
Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Bandara Balalle.
The Judge ordered Alif to be fingerprinted and the sentence was put
off for March 14.
The offence had been committed on Janaury 31, 2002.
The second accused Savarimuttu Rasanayagam charged with aiding and
abetting Alif was found not guilty and was acquitted. Kollupitiya Police
prosecuted. Kingsley Hettiarachchi appeared for Rasanayagam. |
