Twenty four villages to be developed

DAMBADENIYA: Under the ‘Gama Neguma’ programme of the ‘Jathika
Saviya’ programme, 24 villages in the Dambadeniya electorate will be
developed ensuring solution to problems within the village itself
without going behind politicians, said acting Civil Aviation Minister
Sarath Kumara Gunawardena.
The Acting Minister made this disclosure when he addressed a meeting
to introduce the ‘Gama Neguma’ programme held at Narammala Town Hall
last Saturday (03).
Under the ‘Gama Neguma’ programme, people in the area will find out
the needs of the village and employ local knowledge and expertise and
prepare estimates according to the suggestions of the beneficiaries and
allocations will be made accordingly, the Minister explained.
He said that under this programme 4,000 villages in the island will
be selected for development.
The programme will be implemented through the ‘Pradeshiya Sabhas’ and
in the Dambadeniya electorate three villages in each of the ‘Grama
Niladhari’ areas will be selected for development under the first phase.
Dambadeniya SLFP chief organizer Shantha Bandara also spoke. Ven.
Pituwewa Gangananda Thera, ‘Gama Neguma’ Advisor A. M. T. Bandara,
Alawwa ‘Pradeshiya Sabha’ Chairman Sumith Rajapaksa, Alawwa and
Narammala Divisional Secretaries and a large number of people attended
the meeting. |
