Rex Hill Super Cross 2007 at Matugama tomorrow

MOTOR RACING: The third annual Rex Hill Super Cross 2007 is scheduled
to flag off tomorrow at Matugama circuit at 10.00 a.m. Rex Hill Motor
Sports Club which commenced this Super Cross two years ago at a very low
level has reached great heights within this short period and was able to
attract the best riders for this years event.
According to Sarath Kumara, Secretary to the Ministry for State
Infrastructure, the champion of the event is to receive the Rohitha
Abeygoonewardene trophy.
He said that the Minister Rohitha Abeygoonewardena is very particular
in promoting motor sports in the Kalutara district and he has given all
the assistance needed to conduct this year’s meet on a grand scale.
Athula Maddumage, President of the Rex Hill Motor Sports Club said
that already over one hundred competitors have consented to compete at
the meet in different classes.
He also added that the overall winner in two different classes are to
receive trophies and two Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles each worth over Rs.
160,000. This is the first occasion in the history of motorcycle racing
such valuable awards are made, said Maddumage.
Gaya Sandaruwan who won the previous year’s championship and who also
made a clean sweep winning four events at the recently concluded Carlton
Super Cross at Tissamaharama is tipped to carry away the main award in
the racing class.
Buddhika Sandaruwan and Pasindu Pieris too are in the running to win
here tomorrow. These two riders who posed a big threat to Gayan last
week end at Tissa will definitely go flat out to beat the champion
rider.
This year the organisers have included an extra event for juniors
under 10 in addition to the other ten events on the card.
The event to be worked off are novices event (125 cc), kids under 10,
(55cc) Street Trail Bike (125 cc), Racing (80 cc), kids under 13 (80
cc), Racing (125 cc), Street Trail Bikes (250 cc), Racing (250 cc),
Street Trail Bikes (open) Rex Hill Special event, and racing open. |
