Measures to promote construction industry

COLOMBO: The Institute for Construction Training and Development has a wide range of responsibilities and activities to perform in order to develop and promote the construction industry.

Standard bidding documents are very important for the work of procurement work and the development and improvement of the construction industry is dependent on this, Construction and Engineering Service Minister Rajitha Senarathne said yesterday.

Addressing the seminar on Standard Bidding Document for procurement work at ICTAD, Minister Senaratne said that the ICTAD is playing a major role in the development of the construction industry.

The ICTAD, has consulted various parties to prepare this bidding document.

The document provides an insight into new developments and expert opinion in the relevant fields.He said utmost benefit could be gained through this document.

The leading Construction Engineers, Consultants and Architects have participated in the seminar here and they should go through it carefully and should obtain maximum benefit from it, he added.

Addressing the seminar The National Procurement Agency Chairman Daya Liyanage said he had been to several countries recently to study about bidding documents.

Our bidding documents too comprise several scientifically accepted facts and this is a revised document and could be utilised for all construction works and has a history of more than twenty years.

Continuing Daya Liyanage said due to various reasons the construction industry and bidders too were making errors in the bidding process, ICTAD has responsibility to look into this matter he added.

Director, Development and Training K.P.W. Rajasiri delivered the welcome speech. Director Advisory Service Vajira Ranasinghe, ICTAD Procurement Consultant Jayantha de Mel and several others delivered lectures in the seminar.
