Rs. 8,300 m for Jathika Saviya

COLOMBO: The Government plans to spend Rs. 8,300 million on the
‘Jathika Saviya’ programme which aims to uplift the economy of rural
farmers and communities. Nearly 80 per cent of the population will
benefit by the programme.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is guiding the ‘Jathika Saviya - Gama
Neguma’ programme which plans to develop 15,000 villages under the first
stage.
The Jathika Saviya programme consists of three main areas - Education
and Social Development, Livelihood Development, Rural Infrastructure
Development.
The Government has realised that rural communities should be uplifted
to spur development around the country and the Jathika Saviya programme
will help achiever this aim, Plantation Industries Minister D.M.
Jayaratne said, addressing a gathering of Government officials in
Colombo.
“The prime motive of the public servants should be serving the
community without limiting his/her work to circulars or regulations. We
all have to work together to establish better living standards,” said
the Minister.
