Rs. 8,300 m for Jathika Saviya

COLOMBO: The Government plans to spend Rs. 8,300 million on the ‘Jathika Saviya’ programme which aims to uplift the economy of rural farmers and communities. Nearly 80 per cent of the population will benefit by the programme.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is guiding the ‘Jathika Saviya - Gama Neguma’ programme which plans to develop 15,000 villages under the first stage.

The Jathika Saviya programme consists of three main areas - Education and Social Development, Livelihood Development, Rural Infrastructure Development.

The Government has realised that rural communities should be uplifted to spur development around the country and the Jathika Saviya programme will help achiever this aim, Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne said, addressing a gathering of Government officials in Colombo.

“The prime motive of the public servants should be serving the community without limiting his/her work to circulars or regulations. We all have to work together to establish better living standards,” said the Minister.
