Priority for re-settling flood, landslide displaced in N'Eliya
COLOMBO: Urgent steps will be taken to normalise community life in
the Nuwara Eliya district which was affected by the recent heavy rains
and landslides.
This decision was taken at a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat
presided by President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Livestock
Development Minister C.B. Ratnayake.
At this meeting attended by secretaries to Ministries and District
Secretaries priority was given to the re-settlement of displaced people
including the selection of suitable land a Presidential Secretariat
press release said.
Discussions also centred on bringing community life to normalcy by
attending to health, education, transport and other basic needs of this
people including infrastructure facilities.
It was also decided that all displaced should be resettled within the
next two months with the assistance of the National Physical planning
department. |
