SAARCLAW conference in Karachi

KARACHI: The theme of the 12th SAARCLAW conference to be held in Karachi on March 23 will be "The Changing Face of Contemporary Laws'. The President of SAARCLAW Mehmood Mandviwalla said giving details of the conference.

The main session of the conference is titled War and Peace; Old Problems New Perspective. Experts in International law will be presenting papers which will include a presentation on laws relating to belligerent occupation.

Mandviwalla stated that the topics of the conference take into account the challenges of today's technology-driven world which has almost obliterated geographical boundaries and improved people to people co-operation.

The participants of the conference will deliberate on corporate governance in feudal dynasties; cyber crimes; discrimination on laws relating to women and children; mergers and acquisition; anti-money laundering laws; the role of micro finance banking in poverty alleviation; technology laws; consumer protection; judicial dynamism in environment laws.

The 9th SAARC Chief Justices Conference will be hosted by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mohammad Iftikhar Chaudhry. For the first time the SAARC Attorney Generals Conference will be convened by Makhdoom Ali Khan the Attorney General of Pakistan.

Chief Justices and Attorney Generals from China, Japan and Afghanistan will also be invited.

The conference is expected to be the largest jurist gathering in the region with over 300 delegates expected from SAARC and other countries and 500 delegates registering from Pakistan.

Retired Justice Rasheed Razvi President of the Pakistan Chapter of SAARCLAW said that the Supreme Court Bar Association; the Sindh High Court Bar Association; the Sindh Bar Council and the Income Tax Bar Association have all extended their support organising this conference.
